The solo exhibition of Hasan Hasanov, “A Hurricane of Colours”, at QGallery showcases the works of one of the most striking representatives of contemporary Azerbaijani painting. Hasanov’s practice bridges the rich traditions of the national school with an ongoing search for a personal painterly language.

Born in Baku, Hasan Hasanov completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with distinction at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts. Since the early 2000s, he has actively participated in exhibitions in Azerbaijan and abroad. Since 2011, he has taught painting and drawing at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, shaping the artistic sensibilities of future architects and designers.

Nature, particularly the landscapes of Absheron, remains Hasanov’s primary source of inspiration - a realm saturated with light, wind, vivid color contrasts, and distinctive forms. His work does not replicate reality but reinterprets it, transforming the landscape into an expressive painterly monologue. Hasanov’s paintings are characterized by dynamic composition, rich texture, and multilayered color palettes; motifs may recur, yet each time they reveal a new emotional register.

A central principle of the artist is the movement of the brush - a singular, impulsive gesture in which multiple colors, as if caught in a whirlwind, coalesce into a cohesive composition. This is how the “Absheron storm” emerges - not destructive, but generative, endowing the canvas with energy and form. Color, in Hasanov’s hands, becomes a carrier of emotional memory, a reflection of natural processes and states.

“Hasan Hasanov is an artist for whom painting is not merely a profession, but a mode of existence. His works arise from direct encounters with nature, childhood memories, and a deep love for Absheron, transforming into emotional, expressive monologues of color and form,” - notes art historian Dilara Vagabova.

Works devoted to cactuses occupy a special place in the exhibition. These resilient plants, surviving on rainwater and sunlight alone, are transformed in Hasanov’s interpretation into symbols of endurance, inner strength, and a profound connection to the land of Absheron.

The exhibition is conceived as an immersive space, inviting the viewer to experience the rhythm of nature, the breath of the wind, the heat of the sand, and the pulse of color, becoming a participant in the painterly process. Absheron, in Hasanov’s paintings, is more than a geographic space; it is an inner landscape, imbued with childhood memories, sensory impressions, light, and movement.
